Demand for Peruvian cuisine in South Florida is at a fever pitch. The South American country does have one of the tastiest and unique cuisine, and is also among the most diverse in the world. At O’Lima Miami, a high-end Peruvian restaurant in Bay Harbor Islands, minutes from the Bal Harbour shops, you will find an unexpected culinary journey. The restaurant serves up an inventive Peruvian-Japanese fusion menu or Nikkei. Nikkei has become the latest gastronomic sensation to hit culinary destinations; it should not come as a surprise given that Peru has the second largest Japanese population in South America.
Helmed by Executive Chef German Gonzales, the signature cuisine at O'Lima include ceviches, tiraditos, hot and cold appetizers, entrees, desserts and six different Pisco Sour to try made from passion fruit, ginger ale or curacao liquor at reasonable prices ($18-$46). One of the chef's latest creations is a reinvented Lomo Saltado inspired by the Russian classic, beef stroganoff—tender strips of beef and mushrooms sautéed in butter, then swirled in cream with mushrooms and onions. With a mix of Peruvian flavors, this dish is a marriage made in heaven.
