Duffy's Sports Grill Cocowalk
Author(s):
Victoria Cervantes

Sports fans are always on the hunt to watch their favorite teams on game day—whether traveling or hanging out at home. And everybody knows that the best place to watch sporting events is at a sports bar, because who isn’t having a good time watching sports while eating some bar food and drinking some beer. Whether you're a fan of a Miami team or just a fan of sports in general, Miami has a ton of great places to catch any sporting event your heart desires. We have combed South Florida to bring you the sports bars with all the essential ingredients: good burgers, solid selection of beers, parking options and the most crucial ingredient–tons of big TV screens.

Duffy’s Sports Grill

Be the MVP at Duffy’s Sports Grill, a fun-filled, high-energy atmosphere restaurant. It's a great spot to watch any kind of game—especially the Dolphins or a Mayweather fight—from 100-plus televisions in the spacious dining room. If eating is more interesting than the game, order the baby back ribs, lobster roll or the artichoke and goat cheese flatbread. Pair them with one of the grill's tropical-flavored mojitos for a refreshing twist to sports-bar fare. There are locations in Coconut Grove, North Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Jupiter and more.

Guests at Brother Jimmy's restaurant

Brother Jimmy’s BBQ

Brother Jimmy’s Southern comfort appeals to the sports fan in all of us. Here you’ll find the millennials and other young professionals who live in the trendy Brickell area, a rapidly growing neighborhood located south of downtown Miami. On Sundays, stop in to watch the game on one of the 40 HDTVs and order the “Let’s Watch Some Football” specials including $12 select pitchers, $10 buckets of rib tips and hot wings and $10 big gulps.

Sports Grill chicken wings

Sports Grill

A popular hangout during football season, Sports Grill is located in an unpretentious strip mall off US 1 in South Miami. Touted as having Miami’s “Best Chicken Wings,” it even named a dish after the Miami Heat basketball team. The restaurant buzzes all night with families, couples and groups. The bar serves domestic, premium and micro brews as well as wine by the glass or bottle.

Tom's NFL Sports Bar & Grill

Stop in at this rustic sports bar near the Miami International Airport and chill with other travelers from around the world. Tom's is a quaint spot that offers 25 HDTVs and a subscription to MLB DirecTV Extra Innings package, if baseball is your passion. It offers 12 beers on tap and over 75 bottled beers. If you're trying to plan ahead, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays are the most popular nights to visit.

Interior Bokamper's Sports Bar

Bokampers Sports Bar and Grill

Come by land or sea to this upscale bar off the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal Waterway, owned by Kim Bokamper, a former Miami Dolphins player and retired sportscaster for CBS.

More than 160 TVs can be found at Bokampers—even in the bathrooms! A sushi area, wine wall and a menu that offers smokehouse ribs, a steak and egg burger, and sushi rolls: All are a home run with both sports enthusiasts and casual diners. On game day, get here early for a seat at the main bar.

Flanigan’s Seafood Bar and Grill

With over 20 locations throughout South Florida to choose from, Flanigan’s lures visitors with its fishing theme and décor along with their weekend sports specials of 50-percent-off beer and wine. Stay for the all-night happy hour from 9 pm until closing.

Duffy's Tavern

If you want to join the locals in West Miami, Duffy's is an old-school neighborhood favorite that has been entertaining sports fans since the 1950s. With 20 HDTVs, Duffy’s short menu includes all of the typical bar staples including cheeseburgers, chicken and pork wings, fries and 20 beers on tap at affordable prices. Bring cash—this tavern does not accept credit cards. If you forget, there is an ATM on the premises. Don’t miss the sports memorabilia or the vintage license plates covering the walls.

Exterior Burger & Beer Joint

Burger & Beer Joint

Tourist? Local? At the Burger and Beer Joint, everyone feels like family inside this energetic and fun, gourmet eatery. The Rock N’ Roll atmosphere excites all the senses for a newcomer, as all of B&B's famous burgers are named after songs like "Mustang Sally" and "Hotel California." With 75 different varieties of beer to go along with their extensive craft burger menu, B&B delights with bucket-sized portions of side dishes, beer flights and samplers, and big screen madness. Conveniently located in South Beach, Mary Brickell Village and Pembroke Pines.

Fritz & Franz Bierhaus

From the folks that bring you Oktoberfest, Fritz & Franz Bierhaus is a traditional Austrian/German restaurant and sports bar and a staple in Coral Gables. The Bavarian-themed Bierhaus (beer house) hosts the annual Euro and World Cup soccer events year-round, as well as viewing parties for the Miami Heat, Miami Marlins, Barclay’s Premier League and Bundesliga professional football matches. Feast on the pretzels and schnitzel and sip on German beer: Warsteiner, pilsner and dark.

Sandbar Grill

Relive your good ol' college days at this casual bar on Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove, a favorite among University of Miami co-eds and bohemians. Watch NFL, NCAA, NHL, NBA, MLB or UFC coverage at one of the Sandbar's 24 regular-sized HD televisions. No frills or fuss here, but there are Baja California food and jugs of beer. Try the chicken tenders, fish tacos or tequila fajitas. Bring your pet and you can sit in its recently renovated outdoor patio.

Author(s):
Laura Aguiar

Famous and fabulous, the Surfcomber Hotel has reigned supreme among South Beach royalty since it’s opening. Now this high-energy spot attracts crowds of visitors and locals alike to its thriving poolside bar, day and night parties, and events.  The Surfcomber’s historic Art Deco building offers a unique experience and atmosphere alongside delicious cocktails. Where South Florida had the pleasure of meeting the concierge of this this iconic Miami Beach property , Brad Low, for some well-informed recommendations to incoming guests.

How long have you been in the hospitality industry?

Five years. I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Hospitality Management, and I absolutely love the industry.

What is your favorite spot at the Surfcomber?

Our new restaurant concept at the back of the property, High Tide, is an amazing outdoor spot and great for visitors and locals.

Surfcomber Beach View

How do you enjoy South Florida on your days off?

I’ll head over to the beach for some paddle boarding and snorkeling, or hang out by the pool.

Favorite time of the year in Miami?

Winter – it’s sunny outside but a bit cooler. Miami also hosts many noteworthy events around this time – Art Basel and New Year’s Eve are always great times…the city is full of activities.

Surfcomber Pool Party

Why stay at the Surfcomber?

The Surfcomber is a wonderful place to stay because we take pride in our customer service, and treat our guests like family. Located in the heart of the Art Deco District on historic Collins Avenue, Kimpton’s Surfcomber, brings a sense of playfulness to South Beach offering guests the perfect quartet of sun, sand, surf and social. With direct beach access, this hotel offers visitors to this fashionable destination in a distinctively relaxed, yet worldly guest experience within a “backyard bliss,” design-driven environment. Surfcomber’s signature pool/beach experience includes the hotel’s expansive outdoor deck with pool, well-appointed cabanas, and beach activities such as paddle boarding and volleyball. Additional guest services and amenities include 24-hour in-room dining, 24-hour on-site business center, fitness center and mind and body experiences with in-room and beachside massages.

What is your favorite "live like a local" secret you share with your guest?

When guests are looking for nightlife, I recommend checking out the local spots – Purdy Lounge, Bodega and Rec Room are some of my favorites.

Wynwood Walls

What do you recommend to your guests for the rainy days in sunny South Florida?

Wynwood Walls– Although the art is an outdoor attraction, sunshine is not necessary to enjoy the vibrant installation or check out the galleries, shops and restaurants throughout this trend-setting neighborhood. Marlins Game– No matter what the weather, the retractable roof shields fans from unexpected rainstorms, while the expansive concessions and classic ballpark tunes keep everyone entertained. PAMM (Perez Art Museum Miami)– A modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st century. Lincoln Road Mall – The mall is within walking distance and offers a variety of shopping, dining, and social activities.

Favorite restaurant recommendations on the beach?

The Social Club– with a sexy décor that encourages socializing and Cuban-inspired regional fare designed to be shared, The Social Club has everything guests need to wind down the day with a handcrafted cocktail or kick off a night on the town in style. Food. Drink. People. It all comes together beautifully at The Social Club. Havana 1957– with a vintage atmosphere that offers some of the best mojitos on the beach, and affordable, delicious Cuban food with a great ambiance of historic Espanola Way. Nuvo – Specializes in seafood and pasta pairings. Authentic Italian cuisine, casual outdoor dining. The Dutch– Variety of delicious American inspired dishes made fresh each day – don’t miss out on their great desserts!

Skyline of Miami
Author(s):
Victoria Cervantes

Traveling alone can be a challenging proposition for many people. But for the adventurous, South Florida offers a myriad of wonderful activities including exploring the art scene, culinary tours of different neighborhoods or an escape to a first-rate spa. So go on and pack the selfie stick and head south!

Buena Vista Bistro Miami

Morning

Rise and shine! It is time to kick start the day with an order of French toast or a Spanish omelette for breakfast at Buena Vista Bistro, a quaint, charming French neighborhood spot north of Miami'sDesign District. Reminiscent of a Parisienne sidewalk café, it offers hearty dishes that won’t break the bank—prices range from $8 for pancakes to $12 for eggs benedict.

Next, head to the Institute ofContemporary Art, Miami, a new venue inside the Moore Building, with a focus on contemporary art offering thought-provoking exhibitions and multimedia presentations. Here, you'll find works by artists such as American painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, pop artist Ed Ruscha and Puerto Rican modernist painter Enoc Pérez. Opened to the public free of charge, ICA Miami is near Miami's WynwoodArts District making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy a morning of art.

Once in the neighborhood, you can visit the Wynwood Walls, an international destination considered the largest outdoor museum of street art and murals. Located along 25th Street and N.W. 2nd Avenue, you can see works in progress from the artist studios in the area, or stop in at the Go! Shop and pick up a memento from the store's assortment of limited edition t-shirts, books and prints inspired and created by the artists of Wynwood Walls.

Domino Park Little Havana, Miami

Afternoon

During lunchtime what better way to socialize and make friends than on a food tour from Miami Culinary Tours. Enjoy this 2.5-hour tour of Little Havana, a Miami neighborhood considered the epicenter of Cuban culture and heritage. With five stops along the famed, main thoroughfare Calle Ocho (Eight Street), you'll sample authentic Cuban cuisine from the hottest restaurants of this vibrant neighborhood including a Cuban sandwhich, guava pastry, Cuban coffee and Guarapo juice made from sugarcane. The tour also offers the opportunity to explore the local traditions and watch cigars hand-rolled, a game of dominoes at Maximo Gomez Park, called by the locals "Domino Park," and stops at religious stores to learn about Afro-Cuban religious practices.

One of the best ways to re-energize from a day of being out-and-about is with first-class pampering at the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental. Considered one of the best spas because of their exceptional staff and amenities, central location in downtown Miami/Brickell and late-night hours (8:30 am-9:30 pm daily), a massage and stay in the steam room is the perfect way to unwind from the day.

Exterior Coral Gables Art Cinema

Evening

Once the sun has set, it's time to soak up the nightlife in downtown Coral Gables' Miracle Mile. This area is very pedestrian-friendly and offers plenty of restaurants of various types of cuisine. You can order drinks and appetizers at the hip and trendy Tarpon Bend and people-watch from the open-air seating. After a few minutes at the bar, you'll talk the night away with the new friends you'll make.

If you are a night owl, get ready to take in a late-night (11:30 pm) movie cult classic at the Coral Gables Art Cinema, just two blocks from Miracle Mile on Aragon Avenue. See films like "The Fly,""The Invisible Man" or "The Thing." General admission tickets are $7 and include free popcorn!
