Hong Kong-based designer known for her globally influenced line of luxury resort, swim, and ready-to-wear, Marie France Van Damme is hosting an exclusive event today and tonight (May 16, 2018, 3-7 pm) at her Bal Harbour pop-up shop. The brand, which is loved by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Heidi Klum, Cameron Diaz, Olivia Palermo and Catherine Zeta-Jones, will continue to operate the pop-up store at the Bal Harbour Shops through July.
We caught up with the jet-set style maven to chat about her new pieces, why Miami is an important market for her and more.
How important is the Miami market to your business, and why did you feel it was important to have a pop-up here?
Miami has always been an important market for us. It has always been a dream of mine to open a store at Bal Harbour Shops. It is every brand’s dream. We have many clients in Miami and will now be able to provide an exceptional environment to present our latest collection in one of the world’s most exclusive luxury shopping destinations.
What resonates with Miami shoppers and has that changed over the years?
A. Miami is a vibrant fashion capital. Like me, our customer travels around the world, and she needs to find things that will look beautiful during the day as well as at night—from the beach to a cocktail or dinner in the evening. I think there are some things that have changed but that no matter where you are women will always want to look beautiful and glamorous. My line is made for Miami and the contemporary Florida lifestyle. It’s about packing light and packing right and being able to effortlessly dress these pieces up and down, from the beach to a cocktail or dinner in the evening.
How often do you visit Miami?
I am in Miami at least twice a year including Miami for Swim Week in July where we have been presenting our collections since 2011.
What are two key pieces from your newest collection?
A. My gold silk-blend, A-Line skirt ($550) produced each season one of the most popular pieces to wear from pool to cocktail and our signature metallic swimsuits ($329) available all year round.
